The memory of country samba in São Paulo State lives on in the town of Quadra, population 3,000. Even though it no longer shows the vigor of old times, this unique musical expression is far from being a part of the past. It is relived every week-end at the home of João do Ditão, leader of the last group performing the so-called "samba do mato" (bush samba) - one of the few of its kind remaining in São Paulo State.
