Ordinary people from the streets, schools, bars and hospitals of Lima, Peru, conjure up the poverty and squalor that exist side by side with the poetry and pathos of these lives, following centuries of neglect and mismanagement in a country which only makes the world's headlines for its catastrophes i.e. earthquakes or a newly dug shallow graves in the midst of the dirty war between successive governments and the Shining Path guerrilla movement. Director Heddy Honignmann seeks to lift away the veil shrouding a reality that runs the gamut from the sublime to the grotesque, while capturing the tireless struggle of a people against oblivion.
