From a story of a young soldier who stepped on a landmine and survived to the withdrawal of splinters from the heart, a reflection is built over some of modern Colombia’s acute contradictions. The beginning of the cutting divisions between liberals and conservatives that shook the country in 1902 is delineated up to the present standstill with the FARC guerilla, passing through a strange national fixation on the heart symbol.
