"Stalin walked over a million corpses to get to his throne." With fiery eyes, Anatoly Rybakov looks into the video camera of Marina Goldovskaya, who followed him over the course of several years, first in Russia and later in New York. In "Children of the Arbat", Rybakov's most famous book, he writes about the 1930s, when Stalin established his regime at the expense of an entire generation. In this film, the director invites him to tell his life story in a nutshell, from being a victim of Stalin's political purges until he resolved to become a writer after the Second World War.
