The late American director Billy Wilder was nearly as famous for his creative verve as for the sophistication of his film scripts. In 1998, he gave an interview to his German colleague, Volker Schlondorff, on the condition that it woud not be disclosed until after his death, which occurred in 2002. In this interview, Wilde reflects on his filming career which spanned 60 years and was marked by drama classics such as "Sunset Boulevard" (Oscar winner for best script in 1950) and by racy comedies like "The Seven Year Itch" (1955) and "Some Like It Hot" (1959). In this documentary, the Austrian-born filmmaker turned Hollywood icon in the 1940's makes some savory comments about Hollywood's star system and his muses Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe.
