In July 2005, the Australian filmmaker Scott Hicks started shooting a documentary about the composer Philip Glass to celebrate his 70th birthday in 2007. In the following 18 months, Hicks would have full access to the musician's daily routine following him through the preparation of his tours across three continents interspersed with lively details of his family life. Glass appears in front of the cameras composing his pieces, playing with his small kids from his third marriage, meditating with a Buddhist monk and a Mexican Toltec shaman. The composer is also seen making tomato sauce and pizza. In this remarkable mosaic about one of the most famous and controversial artists of today, several movie directors such as Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese and Godfrey Reggio give their testimonial on their partnership with Glass for the soundtrack of their films.
