Between 1968 and 1972, nine US manned space missions were sent to the Moon. Twelve astronauts walked on its surface and became the first humans to ever have set foot in a world outside Earth to date. The film gathers testimonies from crew members of all Apollo missions and plenty of archive footage of that turbulent time period, when the movement for civil rights and the Vietnam War erupted and the space race between the US and USSR was on. Seen in a broader historical perspective, however, the human space adventure goes further beyond the rivalry between those two superpowers, and is deeply ingrained into the collective subconscious as an achievement of all humankind.
