A boat full of Western tourists on board travels upstream on the Yangtze River in China, along cities, villages and farms that will be flooded following construction of the gigantic Three Throats dam. Begun in 2007, the largest engineering project in the world involved the uprooting of nothing less than four million people, besides the inevitable environmental impact. On this boat trip, an intricate panel of geographic and human landscapes is mounted, all of them affected by the profound transformations occurring in China, a world where millenial traditions and foreign influence are intertwined, often yielding new and surprising results.
