Henry Engler Golovchenko has lived two lives. The first in Uruguay, where he was born, the son of Russian immigrants. A medical graduate, he devoted his youth to leftist activism in the Tupamaro guerrilla group. He became one of its top leaders and the mastermind of robberies and kidnappings during the Uruguayan military dictatorship. Golovchenko was arrested and spent 12 years in prison, 11 of which in total isolation. He was constantly relocated from one prison to another and subjected to torture. Freed in 1985, he left for Sweden where he became a neurologist of international acclaim, specialized in research on Alzheimer's disease. Thirty years on, Golovchenko is ready to give an account of his first life.
