A trip through the Paraíba Valley region in São Paulo State reveals traces of the coffee culture boom in this part of Brazil. But the signs of prosperity are all gone, and even passenger trains are a thing of the past. In the sleepy towns of this region, dwellers sit, stew and wait, hoping for better days, a better job, a dramatic change. The young ones leave and the old ones stay behind. Among scattered accounts of an everyday life reduced to mere survival, another quest follows - a girl's search for a missing father. Unknown relatives fill the gap with their stories lost in time. A sense of personal identity is recaptured and reconstructed blending past and present.
