A former journalist and school teacher, He Fengming, 60yo, is ready to make a balance of her life. Sitting in a chair in her small apartment, she recalls the painful details of how the 1949 Chinese Revolution turned into a nightmare that lasted 30 years. Caught up in the witchhunt against the so-called "right wingers" in the early 50's, Fengming was sent to work in the fields as a punishment for being the wife of a journalist who was a strong opposer of the increasing bureaucratization of the Chinese state. For nearly three hours she talks to the camera reminiscing her past memoirs, which turn into a critical investigation of the last decades of China's history.
