At 83, Ingmar Bergman lucidly covers an impressive range of topics in this 40-minute interview. He talks of the idea of death, which had tormented him since childhood, but was more frightening between the ages of 30 and 50 than at that stage in his life. He also expresses his admiration for Ibsen and Strindberg, and makes comments about his Swedish filmmaking colleagues today. Bergman stresses that growing old is complicated, but creativity is a powerful ally against one's destructive demons. Last but not least, he declares his undying love for the cinema that drives him to watch films in his private screening room on the Faroe Islands five times a week.
