In his last but one film, Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni (1912-2007) juxtaposes images of himself and the huge marble "Moses", a sculpture created by Michelangelo Buonarrotti for the tomb of Pope Julius II. Antonioni compares his own fragility following a stroke in 1985, which left him hemiplegic and speechless, with the wear and tear on Michelangelo's marble masterpiece. The director thus creates parameters for the observation of the statue's immortal beauty, while also providing space for reflection on the relativity of time.
