Declared persona non-grata by the Czech socialist regime, the playwright Václav Havel led the so-called "Velvet Revolution", a series of peaceful protest demonstrations that culminated with the fall of the government in 1989. Following the creation of the Czech Republic, Havel was elected the country's first president in 1993 and reelected in 1998. This documentary follows 13 years in the life of the former president and presents a remarkable mix of official footage with his personal background as a politician, such as scenes that show him rehearsing for a speech and shouting at his tailors.
