Brazilian director João Batista de Andrade's first film captures the first years following the 1964 military coup in Brazil to discuss the role of the Brazilian press in a moment in time when it had been shut out by a highly restrictive law. Ordinary people, politicians and specialists are interviewed offering a slice of that turbulent period in the country's history. Produced by the student's movement, the film was slated to be shown when its copies were confiscated at the National Students Union Conference in 1968 and it was put out of circulation for ten years.
