The extensive oeuvre of Brazilian painter Cândido Portinari, who painted more than 5000 paintings in his lifetime, is seen from the perspective of their themes and inspiration. The relationship between Portinari's paintings and his family roots is examined in this documentary. The son of Italian immigrants and born in Brodósqui, in the countryside of São Paulo State, Portinari was a precocious talent at the tender age of 9. As well as showing some of Portinari's paintings, the film contains scenes connected to his childhoold in his hometown i.e. the boys' soccer team, a child's burial in a little blue coffin and peasants busy with their daily chores.
