Since it began in 1996, the "It's All True" Festival has
become a mandatory point of reference for one of the most
notable phenomena of Brazilian cinematic production of
our time: the expansion of documentaries.
It is through documentary registrations - be it by digital
means, or on film - that Brazilian cinema reveals innovative
facets, following through on an avant-garde that had some
of its greatest exponents in the '60s, like Geraldo Sarno or
Paulo Gil Soares, and served as a language of expression for
other names that would be consecrated in fiction cinema,
like Joaquim Pedro de Andrade.
Approaching its 16th edition, "It's All True," one of the
most important international documentary film festivals
held in Latin America, confirms its vigor and daring. And
at the same time it reaffirms that the documentary is
experiencing an absolutely special moment of Brazilian
cinema, with new generations following after one another
and, at the same time, renewing the genre.
For the eighth consecutive year, Petrobras supports
"It's All True," therefore reiterating its policy of full
support of Brazilian cinema and the emergence of new
generations and, finally, of broadening its audience.
Petrobras, the largest Brazilian company, is also the
largest supporter of arts and culture in our country.
Because, deep down, we have the clarity of our principal
mission: to contribute to the development of Brazil. To
bring the future closer.
Documentary filmmakers, by revealing fundamental
parts of our reality in their efforts to help us understand
who we are, fulfill the important task of opening our eyes
and deepening our capacity of comprehending. They
therefore deserve full support. Because a country that
does not know itself, that does not recognize itself in its
artistic expressions, will hardly be a developed country.
