Last year was exceptional for the Brazilian film market.
"Tropa de Elite 2" established a new audience and box
office record. Brazilian films reached 19% of the market
share. Total revenue passed R$1 billion. New models of coproduction
and co-distribution were tested with success.
RioFilme is proud of having contributed to this
panorama, investing in relevant projects of companies
established in Rio de Janeiro. The company's central
objective is to boost the development of the city's
audiovisual industry. This is what we've done in recent
years, with increasingly significant results.
RioFilme also invests in the realization of important
festivals, film programs and markets for the industry and
the people of Rio. The It's All True Festival has become
the principal event dedicated to documentaries in
Latin America. RioFilme has the honor of sponsoring
yet another edition, for the fifth consecutive year.
Throughout its history, RioFilme has invested in dozens
of documentaries. In 2009, the film "Simonal - You Don't
Know How Tough It Was," distributed by RioFilme and
MovieMobz, was a huge success with audiences and
critics. Recently, the company joined forces with the
Secretaria do Audiovisual do MinC and TV Brasil for the
program Longa DOC, which enables the production
and release of five documentaries.
In 2010, RioFilme launched, in partnership with the
Secretaria de Estado de Cultura, the Program for Public
Audiovisual Submissions 2010-2011, which includes
a specific line of documentaries for TV. This line, in
partnership with Canal Brasil, guarantees R$ 300,000 for
the production of each of the 4 selected projects, plus
R$ 200,000 in guaranteed media and exhibition on TV.
For 2011, RioFilme plans to invest close to R$ 15 million
of its own resources in Rio's audiovisual sector. This
value includes investments in content distribution and
production, the realization of audience-building events
and actions, among other activities. The company thus
reaffirms its commitment to the development of the
Rio de Janeiro (and Brazilian) audiovisual industry.
