Ex-employee of the Pentagon and strategist for the Vietnam War, Daniel Ellsberg caused a huge scandal when he decided to leak 7,000 pages of documents to The New York Times in 1971. This explosive material provided evidence that no less than five American presidents had systematically lied to the American public about this war, which had caused the deaths of millions of soldiers and civilians and was still tearing the nation apart. Through interviews with Ellsberg, his family, the authors of the documents, peace activists, and journalists, this film investigates the motives of this man who shocked a country and was persecuted for struggling to change its political future.
