A community of shack dwellers in Salvador (BA) is followed over six years. Most are women, many single mothers and heads of their families, like Geni, the local leader, Jesus, a launderer who dreams of meeting her prince charming, and Maria, a garbage collector who raises 16 children and grandchildren. A link between them all is Norato, a refrigerator electrician and a confidant for most residents who supervises the precarious electric installations. In addition to the precariousness of their dwellings and the environmental problem - from using trash the foundation of the shacks - the government’s plan to transfer the neighborhood creates a new instability on the horizon.
