The Animated Reality:
Animation in Documentary Film
March 28th to 30th, 2012
HELD IN CONNECTION WITH It's All True – International
Documentary Film Festival since 2001, the International
Documentary Conference is a privileged ground
for reflection on documentary filmmaking, pointing directions
of research and mobilizing the scientific and
artistic community around relevant and current issues, always focused on the present but still attentive to the
historical perspective of its production.
This year, hosted and produced by Cinemateca Brasileira
(the Brazilian Film Archives) with the support of CINUSP "Paulo Emílio" and the School of Communication
and Arts of the University of São Paulo,
the Conference presents four panels and a small film
screening centered on the general theme THE ANIMATED REALITY: ANIMATION IN DOCUMENTARY FILM. It is the Conference's hypothesis that many of
the documentaries that use animation as a tool for
depicting real life facts deal with controversial and
difficult issues that could not be addressed in a more
traditional format.
Bringing together filmmakers, technicians and scholars,
both from Brazil and from abroad, the Conference
aims to discuss this tendency that has become increasingly
present in contemporary documentary film production:
the use of cartoons to portray actual events
