Far from other urban centers, a small town in Southern Brazil with very characteristic habits is in the process of disappearing. The location, which has sheltered 1,454 people over 70 years of existence, has only 40 residents, all over 60 years old. No one likes to remember that hundreds of people with Hansen’s disease were isolated there, even though for many the memory is written on their own bodies.
