Members of the same generation of Lúcio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer and Affonso Eduardo Reidy, the brothers Marcelo, Milton and Maurício, professionally known as the Roberto brothers, designed milestones of Brazilian modernist architecture, like the award-winning building of Associação Brasileira de Imprensa (ABI) in downtown Rio and the Santos Dumont airport. Their contributions are re-evaluated through testimonies of several contemporary architects, especially in formulating projects of buildings for middle class residences that, though directed towards the market, never lost beauty or the residents’ well-being from sight, values neglected by the visible standardization of styles and materials in recent decades.
