Objective
It's All True – International Documentary Film Festival aims to promote the documentary production and to increase reflections on the genre.

Dates
The 17th festival edition (2012) will take place on March 22 to April 01 in São Paulo and March 23 to April 01 , in Rio de Janeiro. The tour events in Brazil will be announced lately.

Requirements

  1. Films and videos: documentaries.
  2. Exhibition Formats: 35mm film, Dvcam NTSC, Digibeta and HD Cam.
  3. Films and videos must have been finished after June 2010.
Submissions
  1. Categories – International Competition for Feature and Medium-length films and Brazilian Competition for Feature or Medium-length films (running time longer than 40 minutes); International Competition for Short Films and Brazilian Competition for Short Films (up to 30 minutes); informative programs The State of Things, Latin American Focus and Special Screenings(non-competitive); Retrospectives.
  2. Submissions are free.
  3. Submission material – those interested should completely fill out an entry form at www.itsalltrue.com.br and send 2 DVDs of the film, accompanied by a photos CD and a filmmaker's photo with minimum of 300 DPI (preferably Jpeg) to the festival's head office. If the original language of the film is not English or Portuguese, the copy must have English subtitles.
  4. Subtitles – for the screening of films and videos in any category, it is required to send the list of subtitles in English and a DVD with the final version of the film in order to prepare electronic subtitles. The screening prints or copies that do not have original versions in English, should have English subtitles.
  5. Mail costs – mailing costs of sending the tapes are the sender's responsibility.
  6. Return of material – the tapes or DVDs sent for submission will automatically become part of the Festival's collection and may be used only for cultural reasons without commercial interests.
  7. International productions entries made online will be accepted until December 9th, 2011 The DVD copies should arrive by December 26th 2011 (The Brazilian production online entries deadline will be December 17th , 2011 and the copies should arrive before December 30th , 2011)
  8. Internet – once a production is submitted and selected, all information on entry forms can be made public through the Festival's Internet site.
  9. Only Brazilian premières are accepted to the Competition for Feature or Medium-length films.
  10. Short film/vídeos available online can not be submitted for the competitive program.
  11. Films that were submitted in previous editions and were not selected, cannot be submitted again. Reduced or reedited versions of films that were submitted in previous editions cannot be submitted too.
  12. Producers and filmmakers can submit more than one film.
  13. Each DVD entry should have just one title.
  14. Films submitted in competitive categories can be considered for non-competitive programs by the festival's team.
  15. Documentaries with running time longer than 30 minutes and up to 40 minutes cannot be submitted in competitive programs. Therefore, these documentaries will be automatically transferred to non-competitive programs.
  16. If the director/producer does not follow all the conditions above, the documentary will not be considered by the selection committee.
Film Selection:
  1. A minimum of 12 (twelve) films will be selected for the International Competition of Feature/Medium Length films. Up to 9 (nine) short films will be selected for the International Short Film Competition and the Brazilian Short Film Competition. The selected films will be notified to the producers by February 10th, 2012.
  2. Promotional material should reach the Festival's head office by February 28th, 2012.
  3. Copies of selected films should arrive at the Festival's head office before February 28th, 2012.
  4. Shipping costs of sending the selected films are the sender's responsibility. The value declared for customs must not exceed 10 dollars. Customs taxes related to the copy's transit are at the sender's responsibility.
  5. The festival will cover the costs of returning the copies to origin.
  6. The festival does not pay screening fees.
  7. Filmmakers of selected films automatically authorize the transmission of a maximum of 1 minute of showing time on TV and/or Internet for the promotion of the Festival.
  8. From the announcement of the festival selection until the end of this edition, no selected film may allow any kind of public screening in Brazil, either in movie theaters or similar venues, public broadcast channels or cable and satellite TVs. The non-compliance with this clause will automatically imply the disqualification of the selected film, implying that the film company responsible for the film will be suspended from participating in the It's All True Festival for a period of three years.
Jury
Two distinct juries will be invited, one international and one Brazilian, for the awarding process, each one comprised of three renowned specialists.

Awards
The International Jury will award the Best International Documentary and the Best International Short Documentary Film.

The National Jury will award the Best Brazilian Documentary and the Best Brazilian Short Documentary Film.

The event is also open to partnerships, which result in different awards to be announced during the Festival's closing ceremony.
