Brazilian cinema has an historic link with the country's search for its roots and with the exhibition of the variety of those roots on the screen. It has attempted to show viewer what our reality is, sometimes in a polemical fashion, and sometimes shocking those viewers, in hopes that, with the image, it can revolutionize our own view of the country and, thus, influence our actions as citizens. Therefore, the documentary plays a central role in Brazilian cinematography, with its aspiration to create new social forms and ways of perceiving reality.

The sixth edition of It's All True - International Documentary Film Festival establishes basic grounds so that Brazilian documentary production has somewhere to openly debate the path it has been taking, its advances and is prospects for the future. The success of this initiative is recognized by everyone and can be seen in the number of people who attend the showings (over 13,000 last year) and in the record number of Brazilian works signed up this yeaScript: 192.

I liked the idea of the organizers of the Festival to include a retrospective of one of our most outstanding documentary filmmaker of recent timeSOUND: Geraldo Sarno. The Festival also does well to remember the importance of the masters who are preparing current and future generations in this area.

At the same time, the Audiovisual Department of the Ministry of Culture is pleased to announce, for the first time, its participation in the awards of the event by creating the Acquisition Award, of R$ 5,000, for three documentaries to be chosen by a special jury.

Congratulations to the filmmakers and to It's All True.
