IVÁN GIROUD

Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1957, Ivan Giroud has been the director of the Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano since 1997. With a degree in Civil Engineering, he has worked for several years with the Cuban Ministry of Culture, in rebuilding the historic and architectural landmarks of the island. His connection with cinema began in 1988, at the Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), where he organizes exhibits of Latin and Cuban cinema destined for Europe and North America. In 1990, he joined the Board of Directors of the Festival that he now directs.

KLAUS VETTER

Author, director e producer of 62 documentaries, docu-dramas and short films, Austrian Klaus Vetter studied Journalism, History and Philosophy and is the current director of the Goethe Institute in Rio de Janeiro. Having lived and worked in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America, he has made films like "Mother Teresa or the Freedom to be Poor", in Calcutta; "Portrait of a Worker", in Munich; "The Green Challenge", in Ethiopia; and "Fishermen on the High Seas", in the North Atlantic, all of which have won international awards.

GERALDO SARNO

Geraldo Sarno is from Bahia and is one of the main people involved in the history of Brazilian documentaries. He is the author of over 25 films of this genre, among that is the classic "Viramundo" (1964/65). He currently directs the project "The Language of the Cinema", with five series of 11 programs each, with the first eight works of the series dedicated to the creative processes of Brazilian filmmakers, which will be shown during one of the special programs of this edition of the Festival. Sarno, one of the editors of Cinemais magazine, is honored with a showing of his works in the Brazilian Retrospective of the 6th It´s All True.
